It was translated into English by Jerry Pinto in 2004 and published by Penguin Books India. The English translation was also a critical and commercial success. In his review of the English translation, Pico Iyer wrote: "Jarila is a novel that will stay with you long after you finish it. It is a story of love, loss, and redemption, but it is also a story about the search for identity and the power of the human spirit." Jarila is considered one of Nemade's best novels. It is a powerful and moving story that explores the complex relationships between men and women.
